Acclaimed guitarist and composer Makis Ablianitis presents his latest solo album, “No More Melodies,” live on Saturday, October 17 at 21.30, at Theatre of the NO.
The new album marks a different direction for the musicians involved. With all but one of the tracks being original compositions by Makis Ablianitis, the project explores a distinctive sound that also shapes the trio’s approach to improvisation. The characteristic sound of jazz guitar is enriched with electric guitar and effects, creating a sonic palette that draws inspiration from the “golden era” of funk and rock.
Alongside tracks from the new album, the audience will have the opportunity to hear well-known pieces and songs from the classic jazz and blues repertoire. This repertoire blends naturally with the distinctive musicianship of Giannis Monos on Hammond organ and vocals. Joining them on drums is George Maniatis, a talented musician whose precise technique and powerful, solid sound complete the trio.
Makis Ablianitis is a distinctive presence on the Greek music scene, with an extensive career and collaborations with leading Greek artists, including Manolis Lidakis, Maria Farantouri, Vangelis Germanos and Pantelis Thalassinos, as well as internationally acclaimed musicians from the ethnic-jazz scene such as Hariprasad Chaurasia, Glen Velez, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Fuat Saka and Dragan Dautovski.
Throughout his career, he has also collaborated with Haig Yazdjian, Manos Achalinotopoulos, Petros Tambouris, Bustan Abraham, Abdelli and The Bulgarian Voices. A particularly notable piece in his career is “Love Secret,” from the triple-platinum album “BAHAR.” The composition has travelled beyond Greece, been reinterpreted by musicians and singers abroad, and has accumulated millions of views on YouTube.
His new album “No More Melodies” is available on CD, as well as in a special 180g vinyl edition signed by the artist.
